The Eastern Sierra in Winter rivals any of the World’s mountain ranges for its snowy beauty!  Peaks, such as Mt. Tom, Lone Pine Peak, Mt. Whitney, and the White Mountains are particularly striking in layers of white.  With the possibility of southern low-angle light hitting the range at sunrise, the combination of these natural occurrences can stir the emotions of any landscape photographer – from the amateur to seasoned professional. This mountain range is photogenic in color or black & white.

In this workshop, we have two goals:

  1.  We will venture into the field, taking photographs in some of the most beautiful locations the Eastern Sierra has to offer – from Mono Lake to Lone Pine via the scenic Hwy 395.
  2. We will take these photos and others you’ve sent us, convert them from a digital file to a digital negative for contact printing, then print them in the black and white process of platinum/palladium (please click here to learn about more about the process). From the first day, you will quickly and easily make prints!

Kerik and Kirk will be at your service in the field, ensuring you are capturing your envisioned photos, while assisting with any camera operation questions you might have.  Our goal is for you to walk away from a scene with confidence you have a well-exposed, well-visoned photograph!

Lastly, Kerik and Kirk are well-versed in night capture and will take you to wonderful locations that lend themselves to night imagry.  This will be in addition to daytime photography sessions.

During this workshop, you will:

  • Photograph the region each day – during day and/or nighttime
  • Learn or re-familiarize yourself with field techniques for image capture
  • Print hands-on platinum/palladium, learning as you print
  • Get acquainted with the digital negative process, including calibrating using the new QCDN software
  • Receive valuable feedback on your photos in a fun, creative environment. From visualization to the final print – we will help take your photographs to another level!
  • Experience and photograph the Eastern Sierra at its most beautiful, during the least visited and undisturbed time of the year.
